No More Cold Paws

Wow, I never thought we’d get here but we are finally far enough south so I can walk anytime I want and we don’t need jackets or gloves. I heard that at home it’s so cold that I’d be freezing my feet. I don’t like those cold nightly walks and I have been known to stand on one paw until Joe feels sorry for me and carries me home. I guess my friend Meryl tried the same thing but his mean grandpa wouldn’t carry him.

However, I may rethink this because Mona was warned to carry me on the dock from the boat to shore because people have seen alligators sitting on the docks here. So far we haven’t seen any gators but we are on the lookout. I don’t want to meet one face to face!

So far, I’ve walked the entire length of the Sanford River Walk. There is always something new to see. Today we saw a birthday party for a 3 year old girl. I didn’t care for it because the little girl was dressed up in a pretty dress and was posing for pictures. Not one of the guests even noticed how cute I was and I walked by un-noticed. Talk about a let down…

Last night we walked along the waterfront and I caught the scent of something. Joe didn’t catch it and I had to “insist” that we go to the other side of the street. I usually “insist” by standing straight legged and leaning back against the leash. It works, sometimes. This time, Joe relented and in no time I found what I was looking for. A nice fresh rib bone that still had some meat on it. It was just lying there in the street. Yum! But Joe saw me pick it up and… well, that was the end of that. I looked at him and thought “What”???

I’m still waiting for my first dinghy ride. At first, it was too cold to anchor away from electricity. Mona gets cold and we find a dock to plug into. Not that the docks aren’t interesting. There is always something to see and we get a new one every so often.

Some of the docks float and when we tie up they wiggle. It doesn’t bother me but Mom thinks I’ll fall in the water. She is always telling me “Be Careful!” Okay Mom…

Some of the docks are attached to pilings and don’t move. They are called “Fixed”. Were they broke? I don’t get it but they go up and down. Something called tide. Whatever. I just know that they lead to shore and that’s where I poop. Good enough.

Back to the dinghy rides. I like to ride and see stuff. Sometimes I see big fish called dolphins. They are fast and graceful. And I can hear them breathe when they come up. I think I can hear them chirp at me, too. They are fun loving and always in a good mood.

Another odd animal we saw was a manatee. Ugly! I guess people like to see them but I think they are boring. They just lump around and float past. Why all the excitement? But I guess we are going to look at them at Blue Springs. There is supposed to be a bunch of them there. I will at least get a dinghy ride to see them.

Another curious thing happened two days ago, we drove all day to get my car. Yay! We are going home! We got back to the marina and I noticed no one was packing up. WTF. We can’t leave until you guys pack… Then, the next day, a whole group of people show up here, they kinda pretend they know me, then one of them drives off with my car! Wait a minute. How will we get home if we don’t have a car?

Oh… I get it. I’m still stuck on this boat. When will it end?? Well, I better be a good boat dog. Think I’ll go lay in the sun for awhile.
