The blog is suppose to be about boating adventures. Painting…kidney stones….all part of it. Yes, this is cruising!
Now trying to figure out when to get the boat put in the water… Tides! Sunday would be good, but we don’t think the guys at the yard splash boats on Sunday. High tide is either early a.m. or late afternoon. Believe it or not, it changes 50 minutes between Sunday and Monday. A Monday put-in will be either 7:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. It gets dark around 6:00 and we have 10 miles to go. You do not want to arrive at an unknown marina in the dark. So 7:00 a.m. it is 😣. We need to get this show on the road.
Thank you for all your prayers and positive vibes through Joe’s kidney stone incident. He feels fine this morning as well.
We now have several days to finish up our boat preparing, which was so rudely interrupted. It is raining today, just as forecast, so we will find spots on the boat for waaaaaay too many clothes and shoes. Joe wants to clean the bilges and we also need to clean the decks. I guess all of this can be done in the rain.
It hasn’t stopped raining all day. We ran a few errands and Joe bought a guitar. I guess he felt he deserved a prize for a few hours of agony.
Saturday January 23
We dawdled in the morning — nice breakfast, walk along the River and just checking out the town some more. Darn, the submarine museum is closed due to covid. You may scoff, but we really wanted to visit as this whole area is based on Subs.
Well, back to the inevitable, moving onto the boat. We checked out of the hotel and stuffed all our stuff back into the Tahoe. Joe jokes (I think) about trading it for a Suburban. I think we just need to get a handle on “stuff”.
Jerry Lee, the owner at the music store where Joe bought his new “travel” guitar and his new wife, had a few suggestions for us: live music at Seagles and dinner at Lang’s. Lang’s was definitely on our list. We could see their fish shop and shrimp boat about 2 blocks away. The music store couple were very nice. I think we stayed to talk to them for an hour. We truly like it here, the low country marshes really grab you with their beauty. We learned of a new marina being built, shops and condos. We will be monitoring the progress. Oh and the newlyweds were in their 60’s! Maybe our new best friends!!
So, carrying stuff up the ladder to the boat and finding spots for it all—loads of fun 😏. Another pile is stuff to go home. I think we bring towels every time we come to the boat—way too many. Even an abundance of those old, worn ones we call “boat towels” that are used for wiping up water. There are also towels named “paw wipers”!
Oh yeah, on our walk this morning we ran into Coconut’s twin. She was suppose to be a purebread Westie— hmmm tail and legs too long and huge ears. She was a pure Coconut. This dog ( we didn’t get her name), was 2 years older than Coconut’s 9 years. So cute. I wanted her!!

double trouble
Back to the boat, up the ladder…oops, didn’t leave the heater on. It’s all good, we can sleep “on the hard” for two nights.
I don’t know why we do this “Two Weeks in The Boat Yard” when we come down here… Gonna have to write a song “ I’ve got sand in my bed, I’ve got sand on my shoes, I’ve got those ever loving Boat Yard Blues”
Well, we will set the Monday morning alarm, launch early and head south.

Haha double trouble. 🙂
