Monday, the 21st
We are suppose to move the boat this morning to Solomoms. The weather is not cooperating. The wind picked up last night and is still blowing this morning. Also looks a bit foggy. All not good conditions for crossing to the West side of the Chesapeake. We did not get to explore Oxford on Sunday; it rained all day. Good thing we had a projects, movies and books. Disappointing, especially since we did not get to sample the ice cream at The Scottish Highland Creamery. I was thinking maybe for breakfast 😚 but they are closed today.
We took Coconut for a walk around the neighborhood and saw some fabulous architecture and fall decor. Also the wind stopped blowing and the sun came out; that’s more like it. We had a quick breakfast and headed out.

Love the front porch rockers! Everyone has them.

The waves on the bay were larger than we would have liked and heading west made the boat roll a bit but as soon as we were able to head south it got better. We actually were surfing a bit so with that push and the wind, we made excellent time to Solomons. We were here before on our SeaRay and enjoyed the marina and town very much. I think it is the cleanest Marina we have been in. The pool is still open but the poolside bar is not– bummer. We walked into town and found a waterside, dog friendly, place called Stoney Kingfishers. The crab soup was divine.
Looks like another rain day tomorrow. Laundry and a West Marine run!!
Tuesday, the 22nd
Woke to a misty day. Not really raining. We are thinking we could have left. Oh well, worked a bit more on boat organization and got the laundry done. The marina does have a laundry on site.
A few interesting stories from our boat neighbors. A beautiful Beneteau 411 sailboat is docked one slip away from us. John and Jane (really) are from St. Louis and sold their large home and land holdings to live full time on this sailboat. The interesting part is that they never sailed. This was John’s dream but after awhile and research, Jane decided it might be fun to give it a go. Their house sold in four days (lucky dogs) so they bought a motor home to live in. They traveled the southwest and ended up in Florida at Vero Beach. There, they got hooked up with a bunch of old sailors who taught them to sail and helped them buy a boat. Before they purchased they talked about a boat name and both decided “Let it Be” was right. Some how, they ended up naming it “Dejarlo”, which in Spanish means “pack it up”. Great name. Great boat. Very interesting couple– living the dream!!!
Not so much living the dream is couple number two, a younger couple, who were packing stuff into a pickup truck. Looked like an end of season clearing off the boat day. Nope. Their boat was anchored out in front of our Marina during a storm and then an extremely low tide occurred (we witnessed the low tide in Rock Hall–I could barely get on our boat). Their sailboat dragged on its anchor then tipped over on its keel and filled with water. So sad, this was just the beginning of their adventure. They were heading for the Bahamas. They were not on the boat when this happened and couldn’t get back to it for a few days. TowBoat US dredged under it to get it upright, pumped the water out and towed it to a Marina. This boat was also a large Beneteau. Thankfully, no one was hurt and they had insurance. They were going to fix the boat and try again.
So, our good news, we closed on our house today! Bittersweet. We celebrated at our favorite place here in town, The CD cafe. It was perfect.

Congrats on the closing! Down sizing is really happening!
I just want to know what boats with Spanish names really translate into. French boat names are all blow job, so there has to be something there for Mexicans too!
Crazy busy and crappy weather here. Just got my flu shot so get yours!
Love,
Laura
