Fall Cleanup

We finally got to the storage yard yesterday to check on BOB. The expensive tarp we bought last year didn’t make it through the summer. But, we knew that, thanks to the owner at the storage yard, who called us in June to let us know that it had failed. We decided to make a tarp/cover at home and ship it here. the storage yard was nice enough to put it over BOB and tie it down. The good news is that the effort was worth it. the cover made it through Hurricane Irma with flying colors. Now, we just have the old tarp to dispose of. An inspection of BOB showed that our worst fears of storing a boat in Florida over a hot humid summer were unfounded. The interior of the boat is in great condition and will require very little clean up. The outside is another story. But nothing that we haven’t seen over the years in Bayfield with the sailboat. Lots of leaves, dirt and other unidentifiable items are left over from a summer of rain and wind.

Today we started scrubbing the grime off during an unpredicted rain storm. I guess the rain helped rinse off the Boat Soap but was somewhat annoying anyway. Just about the time we finished the washing, the rain stopped, the sun popped out and the wind picked up. Whatever…. we got the lower part of the boat compounded and waxed and the quit for the day.

Tomorrow we will finish cleaning and get ready to trailer up to St. Augustine to launch on Halloween. Boo…..

  1. Your note made me smile. One that Mona’s excellent sewing skills cannot be denied! Two that the clean-up in Florida had to be much better than if you were doing it in Bayfield right now. Three so glad you met with good fortune on all counts. You have a place to live! Coconut must be jumping for joy, to be rid of that car ride! It is unseasonably cold here this week, trick or treaters will need to be in snow suits. Happy Trails! L
