Time flies…

Mom and dad were right–the older you get, the faster time goes.  The last 10 days went by in a flash.

We ended up staying at the Smyrna Yacht club a little longer than planned.  This is not a bad thing.  We couldn’t get into the city Marina because of weather issues.  Wind.  We have found the South to be a bit different where reservations are concerned 😉

We had a 3 day cold snap so we took a day trip to Sanford, which is northeast of Orlando. Known as the “Historic Waterfront Gateway City,” Sanford sits on the southern shore of Lake Monroe at the head of navigation on the St. Johns River.  Joe has thoughts of cruising the St. John’s at some point, so we thought we’d check it out.

Sanford is home to Seminole State College of Florida and the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The downtown has shops, restaurants, a marina, and a lakefront walking trail. The Orlando Sanford International Airport, which is in the heart of the town, functions as the secondary commercial airport for international and domestic carriers in the Orlando metropolitan area.  We are going to check out flights through there if we fly here!!!  We had very tasty lunch at The Breezeway.  I finally tried shrimp and grits.  I think my wait for this dish was meant to be.  It was soooooo good.

The cold front last a few days so we needed to find something more  to do, we decided to go look at new cars.  Now we know that at least one of our friends thinks that is the best thing in the world to do, but most of us sort of dread it.  However, we braved Daytona bike week and did a bit of car research.  We determined cars are very expensive but the new gadgets are very cool and most of the “bikers” are aging baby boomers.  Sell your Harley stock!!!!

Friday came quickly and it was time to go meet my cousins in Leesburg.  Sandy had a brilliant idea to meet at Cocoa Beach.  I got a beach walk and lunch on the pier and Joe, my chauffeur, and The Nut got to explore Joe’s old haunts.  He lived there in the early 90’s.  Much has changed but they did get a great lunch at the Tiki bar he remembers from his past life.

I spent two days catching up with my family.  Sandy’s sister Kim and her husband Matt and 2 teenage daughters added much laughter.  Especially when viewing old family slides. Nothing like teenagers to bring out the negatives of bygone fads!  We all agreed our mothers were beautiful.

Uncle Jim made his fabulous Korean beef dinner.  Words cannot say how nice this dinner is.  It was a bit hard for me with Aunt Beth.  She has Alzheimer’s and recently went on hospice.  However, she shows bits of her old self with smiles and laughter.  I love this respite with my cousins and Aunt and Uncle.

While I was laughing away a few days with family, Joe was in charge of moving Bob to a new Marina.  It apparently went well except for Coconut making a splashdown by jumping out a window.  Scary, but several Marina people pitched in for the rescue.  Hopefully, she might have learned a lesson.  We aren’t being mean when we say stay on the boat.  I have a hard time even thinking about what could have happened.

Our friends Keith and Cheryl just left this morning after a 2 day visit.  They are on a road trip from Miami to Atlanta.  We had a great time with them–as always.  Perfect weather for a cruise on the intracoastal with Bob.  We had a few cocktails some great meals and got caught up with each other’s lives.   I believe a good time was had by all!!!

We are here for 10 more days.  We know the time will go fast. Today is 82 and there is not a cloud in the sky.  However, rain is in the near forecast.  We are glad to hear about snow being gone and ice going out at home.

Having some internet issues so no pictures with this post–thanks for following along with us!!!
