Exploring Fort Pierce

imageThere is good and bad…..good are the restaurants, parks and brewery (got the shirt) bad are the pigeons and trains going through with whistles blasting at 2:00 a.m., most every night!

The Fort Pierce City Marina is large and build around a city park.  There is a sea wall where tourists lurk all day.  The City sells fish food to feed the fish — mostly catfish — eeeek!  I don’t think we’ll be doing a dinghy ride in this Marina.  The pigeons are also a problem making  a giant roost out of a power boat a few boats down from us.  It has been “bombed” by these birds, not a pretty sight.   The Marina is trying to get control of the situation but don’t seem to consider the fish food they sell attracts birds as well as fish.  Fortunately Bob is docked next to a boat with plastic owls on top so we haven’t been a target….yet.

Our dock neighbors tell us there is a small alligator that explores the Marina at night but we have not seen it.  We did tell Coconut not to wander around in the dark! We have seen manatee right next to Bob.

The Original Tiki bar is also on the sea wall.  A very popular place.  We get to hear “Smith table of 6”, etc., all evening…  So far, they have had live music every night too.  Makes for a nice cocktail hour for us on Bob’s flybridge but not so nice when you want to go to sleep !!!

imageSaturday was a fun day, starting out with a farmers market and art fair in the park’s plaza by our dock.  Great food and people watching. You could buy a complete breakfast, baked goods, any fruit or vegatable and live plants!!!  The art fair was fun too but where would I put anything else in my house!!!  We ended up doing our fair share of supporting the locals though!!!

We took Bob out for a ride. The destination being a small, sandy island we spotted the day before while exploring the beach.  Joe wanted to get the boat in shallow enough to try to clean the bottom.  Yes, things are growing on Bob’s bottom ☺️ The island was a popular spot and we didn’t end up close enough to clean the boat. We did anchor for a few hours though, watching the boats go by, the Sheriff pulling some boats over and just chillin’.   We were actually in the inlet out to the ocean so the current was very strong, with the wind and wave action, we thought it might not be safe to be in the water anyway.  Bob will be pulled out of the water to trailer a bit further North soon so we will have to clean the bottom then if we don’t get another chance here.

Had a delightful sampling of beer at the Sailfish Brewery Taproom and then went to the Dive Taco bar for dinner.  This place has been recommended several times.  No luck, 45 minute wait.  Another day.
